BB School Board Legal Status

Adopted: February 13,1978

Amended: January 26, 2010

Policy

The Board is a corporate entity created by the provincial legislature and given authority by the School Act and the attendant regulations. The Board is charged with the responsibility of providing its clients with an education system organized and operated in their best interests both present and future.

The Board is comprised of five (5) trustees elected by electors who entrust this body with the setting of local educational policy and the wise use of resources when individual trustees or committees of trustees are delegated to act for the Board. If Board members act beyond those powers, the acts become those of individual members and members individually (or collectively) must assume the liability for their actions.

The Board shall act fairly, reasonably, and in good faith.

Guidelines

The Board may delegate some of its powers to committees of the Board, Board employees, or School Councils.
