can not adequately describe the vast size of Brazil. It is the fifth
largest country in the world after the Russian Federation, Canada, China,
and the United States.
This gigantic country occupies a total area of 8.5 million square kilometers, the lion's share of the land mass of the South American
continent. Except for a small number of islands, Brazil consists of a
single, unbroken land mass. On the continent of South America, Ecuador and
Chile are the only two countries that do not share a border with Brazil.
The Equator passes through the north of the country near the city of
Macapá,
while the Tropic of Capricorn passes through the south of the country near
São Paulo.
The Atlantic Ocean stretches across the eastern side of the
country, providing Brazil with a coastline that is 7,367 kilometers long.
