This market has the most amazing fish. The market is right beside the water, because fishermen
come in
the early morning with their fresh catch of fish. When the boats come in, it's
chaos. There are men, fish, buyers, sellers, coffee vendors, and boats, all
noisy and sweating, in a
very small area.
There are hundreds of different kinds of fish sold here, from the Atlantic Ocean, and from the Amazon River. The market also has fruit, vegetables, tobacco, and medicines. The medicines included animal parts: dead snakes, toucan bills, three-toed sloth toes, and parrot heads. Some people feel they can help with diseases. Some people feel it endangers the jungle animals.
This market is a big building. There are lots of smaller stalls inside. Each stall is rented by different people selling different things. This market was known for thieves. It's crowded and noisy, so they can easily pick pockets. I had to go early in the morning when the thieves were sleeping.
This market has three parts to it: the building, the sheds, and the street stalls. All roads in this city lead to this market.
