She cooked the food on the little black barbeque on the ground beside her. The acaraje is special to her culture. Her ancestors were from Africa. Acaraje is made with black-eyed peas, fried in red palm oil, and stuffed with dried shrimp. I loved it! It is special to the Bahia state.

A lot of people sell  food at street stalls. When she is done working, she takes the whole stall home with her.

Notice all the different skin colours. People moved to Brazil from many other countries. They eat food from their own cultures, depending on what food they can get in Brazil.
