Some
people go out at night, and like to have a snack as they stroll along the
street.
These women live in Salvador. Salvador is not very far away from the Equator. Sunset in the middle of the world, all around the equator area, is at 6 p.m. Sunset is very sudden - no long, red skies. Sunrise is at 6 a.m. The times do not change at different times of the year.
These women are wearing white, because their ancestors were slaves from Africa. They still wear their traditional African clothing, follow their traditional religion, and eat their traditional food. When the slaves were brought from Africa to Brazil, the Portuguese tried to stop them from following their culture. They are proud that they have been able to keep their music, dance, religion, clothing, language and food over five centuries.
