A
tributary is a smaller river that joins with a larger river. This small river
joins with a bigger river. That river joins with a bigger river. And that river
finally joins with the huge Amazon River.
The Amazon region is all connected by small
rivers that are tributaries of the Amazon River. It has over 1,100 tributaries. The Amazon River is so wide in
spots that you can not see the other side. Huge ocean tankers can come up the
River to the city of Manaus, 1,200 kilometers from the mouth. The Amazon River is in total
6275 kilometers long. There are so many different
kinds of fish in the Amazon River that not all of them have names.
We went for a swim in this river. We tied vines to a branch, and swung into the water like Tarzan. We were nervous about the fish in the water, because we had just been fishing for piranhas that day.
